Experiential Learning Opportunities
Capstone Project: You will participate in a two-semester capstone experience where you will be matched with a geoscience faculty mentor as you pursue a meaningful project.
Social Science Research Center (SSRC): A massive resource for social data. Our undergraduates often work as research assistants on grant-funded projects involving public health, safety, and societal trends.
National Strategic Planning and Analysis Research Center (NSPARC): Known for heavy data lifting in workforce and economic development. They offer our students internships and fellowships (sometimes in partnership with the Honors College) to work on predictive analytics for state policy.
Data Science Academic Institute: Our undergraduate researchers work on faculty projects in diverse subject areas, often involving text data.
You will take five hands-on labs that use real data. This builds career-relevant experiential learning directly into your coursework.

Testimonial
I was really interested in sociology and statistics, as well as how people exist in society and the data produced from society in general. I wanted to find something that was able to combine my interests in human produced data and analysis, which led me to my concentration.
