Rebecca Mataya, a BBA and MBA graduate of Mississippi State University’s College of Business, turned an unexpected opportunity into a thriving career with NASA Stennis Space Center. After starting her career working full time at a bakery in Picayune, Mississippi, a chance encounter during a delivery to Stennis led to a receptionist position that launched her journey at NASA. Through determination and continuous learning, Mataya advanced through several roles before becoming a NASA Resource Analyst, managing budgets and operational funding. While working full time and raising a family, she earned both her BBA and MBA from Mississippi State, applying those skills directly to her work and ultimately earning NASA’s Exceptional Achievement Medal for her impact on operations and cost savings.
